Garden Getaway

This Kitchener couple recently moved to Canada from a 200-acre farm in rural Connecticut. Their objective was to recreate the woodland landscape of their farm, for immediate enjoyment, on this 1/3 acre lot with no existing planting beds or trees and create a garden getaway. The front entrance incorporates a series of staggered walls to create a private courtyard. Spaded trees to the outside of the courtyard frame the house, creating additional privacy, and provide a canopy for night-time lighting. The backyard has three major design elements: porch, pavilion, and natural water feature. The existing vinyl porch was demolished and replaced with warmer and more natural materials: tongue and groove Cedar ceiling, Fir and Cedar beams and pillars, and Ipe post and railing. Stainless steel cable rails were selected by the client to modernize the look of both the porch and the entire back house façade.
